Opening and Closing Duties

Opening Duties Checklist

  • If you are the first to arrive, the front door will be locked. Go in through the side door where the van (Homer) is parked. The door code is 1342.
  • Follow the hallway to the left to reach the gym door.
  • Unlock the front door and flip on the light switches right next to the door (this turns on all upstairs lights).
  • Feel free to turn on the TV with the remote on the cart near the machines.
  • Clock in on Connecteam as soon as you walk through the door!
  • Check the daily schedule in Slack and grab the corresponding binders/folders from the bookshelf by the stairs.
  • Write exercise programs β€” you are encouraged to ask fellow interns for advice on program design before going to a supervisor.

Closing Duties Checklist

  • Once all coworkers/volunteers have left the gym, wipe down and put away all materials from stretches. Wedges belong against the mirror; foam rollers and bolsters go atop the shelf by the front door.
  • Bring stray weights and equipment back to their respective places (downstairs racks or the upstairs weight rack by the door).
  • Ensure all watches are plugged into a charger.
  • Downstairs specific: turn off the radio/speaker; turn off the TV (leave the remote on the ledge nearby); turn off the fans and lights; slide the switches (sliders) on the wall by the first treadmill all the way down; keep weights and bands orderly; set the Smith machine bar to the tallest height and center the bench; lower all treatment tables and place one pillow on each (two on the gray mat).
  • Clock out before you walk out of the gym, as Wi-Fi is spotty at the farm.

Towel (Laundry) Management
  • Dirty towel hampers are in each of the upstairs bathrooms and typically need to be washed twice a week.
  • The washer, dryer, and laundry pods are in the closet by the women's bathroom.
  • See Marc if you need help.
How to Spend Blocks “Off”

If you have an empty block or a client cancels at the last minute, you have a few options for how to use that time. You can either clock out for the block or work on an FCAP-related task. Some examples of FCAP tasks include:

  • Doing towel laundry
  • Cleaning the clinic, including wiping down bands, machines, and vacuuming
  • Making copies of any FCAP clinic documents
  • Reviewing the exercise list
  • Putting another intern through a workout
  • Working on any other FCAP-related tasks that need to be done (check in with Caroline and Marc)

Lead interns and tenured interns can also help with floor management β€” keeping an eye on other interns while they are working with clients and offering assistance or guidance when needed.
